Be Still and Delight in the Lord

I thank God for the Psalms, which speak truth in a way so easily edifying to your soul. How gracious is our God to condescend to us and make us his delight, we who are so undeserving. And because he first loved us, we love and delight in him. He is a great God.

Be still, and know that I am God.

I will be exalted among the nations,

I will be exalted in the earth!

The LORD of hosts is with us;

the God of Jacob is our fortress.

-Psalm 46:10-11

but his delight is in the law of the LORD,

and on his law he meditates day and night.

He is like a tree planted by streams of water

that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither.

-Psalm 1:2-3

O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you;

my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you,

as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.

So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary,

beholding your power and glory.

Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you.

So I will bless you as long as I live;

in your name I will lift up my hands.

My soul will be satisfied as with fat and rich food,

and my mouth will praise you with joyful lips,

when I remember you upon my bed,

and meditate on you in the watches of the night;

for you have been my help, and in the shadow of your wings I will sing for joy.

My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me.
